‘What We Need To Thrive’ report

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."

Following on from these sessions, they put together a report to compile their findings.

In March 2021, the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) formed a valuable connection with the Society of African and Caribbean Midwives (SoAC), discovering their shared visions and ambitions. This collaborative spirit led to the initiation of an exciting joint project. By April 2021, the two organizations had organized safe space sessions specifically for Black and Brown Midwives and Student Midwives. These sessions, designed to provide a supportive and inclusive environment, saw robust attendance and yielded significant insights. Building on the success of these discussions, ASAM and SoAC compiled a comprehensive report to document their findings and outline the path forward, highlighting the importance of community and shared experiences in the field of midwifery. The team named the report ‘What we need to thrive’ which higlighted the of International Day of the Midwife 2021.
