Through the Dark Lens Conference
"Through the Dark Lens" (TTDL) is a powerful collaboration between ASAM and Abuela Doulas, dedicated to celebrating Black and Brown excellence in perinatal health. Initiated in 2020, the partnership held its first online conference in 2021, attracting a global audience for two days of learning, celebration, and networking. Addressing the alarming disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes for Black and Brown communities, as highlighted by reports like MBRRACE, TTDL shifted the focus from mere discussion to actionable change. The conference aimed to enhance knowledge, skills, and cultural safety among perinatal health professionals. By engaging with individuals, organizations, and campaigners already working to tackle these disparities, TTDL provided a platform for sharing effective strategies and celebrating ongoing efforts. Building on the success of the initial conference, TTDL expanded in 2023 to include two conferences, one of which was held live. This live event aimed to bring TTDL to life, promoting positive changes in maternity services. Attendees explored best practices, learned to become change agents, and committed to their own #darklenspledges, marking a significant step towards improved perinatal health equity.

I loved the speed networking, for a somebody who is new to the birth world and to the country it was super helpful. And also a great opportunity to feel like I am a part of it. It was better then I expected for something that was online. I found Airmeet a great programme/platform and easy to figure out.
